Can I Decorate for Fall When My House is on the Market?

Pumpkin spice is in the air, it's football season and everybody is excited about decorating for Fall.

It's a great question, "It's Fall season, I'm getting ready to put my house on the market. Can I decorate with Fall decorations?"

Pumpkin spice is in the air, it's football season and everybody is excited about decorating for Fall.

So how do you do it in a tasteful and simple way that will help buyers to view your home in it's best light.

The first thing I'll share with you is to clean up the outside just like you would in the Spring:

1. Remove Fall foliage that is coming down: leaves, pine needles and pine cones. Get those out of your landscaping so that your mulch is fresh.

2. Powerwash your sidewalk and driveway as well as the siding on your house where green algae grows from the summer humidity. Take care of these things so buyers see a fresh and well cared for home.

On the inside, you can add cozy throws and pillows in seasonal pops of color and simple decorations. Just remember you want buyers to remember your home not how fabulous your Halloween decorations are.

Tasteful incorporation of vases and simples flowers, a fresh new doormat. All of those details can make a big difference when a buyer views your home.

Overall, be mindful of your days on market, for your price range and your community because you may need to update your photos as we move through the holidays to ensure buyers always see your home in it's best light.

Pro Tip: Put a few lamps on timers so your home is light and bright as your buyers arrive as our days get shorter, especially in the evenings.
